With popular social networks seeing some downtime, most shops closed, and many people off work for Thanksgiving, bargain hunters flocked online to start their holiday shopping. Sales for the day totaled $4.2 billion, according to research from Adobe Analytics. That makes this year the first time that Thanksgiving Day online sales have passed the milestone $4 billion mark, with sales up 14.5% on last year’s online sales of $3.7 billion. Read more…

Is anyone going to the stores on Black Friday? The online sales data continues to impress. As of 9:00 a.m. ET, online sales on Black Friday are up 19.2% from the prior year to $600 million, according to Adobe Analytics. The day is on track to reach $7.4 billion in sales. Bargain hunters have flocked online to start their holiday shopping with Adobe reporting, as of 2 pm Pacific time, $2.1 billion had been spent online, up 20.2% on the same period a year ago. Prior to that, Adobe said $470 million has been spent online at 10 am, a rise of 14.5% compared to sales figures from the same time last year. Overall, sales patterns are largely on track to hit Adobe’s prediction of $4.4 billion in sales today. Read more…

Comparable-store retail sales gained 1.3% in the first two weeks of the month, according to Fiserv… Consumer online spending is projected at US$57.5 billion so far in the season — or 16% higher than a year earlier. Adobe sees e-commerce sales reaching US$7.5 billion on Black Friday and US$9.4 billion on Cyber Monday — both about 205 higher than in 2018. Read more…

Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger are down for many around the world (Update: Back up!)

There appears to be a major outage impacting Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook itself. Many users are reporting that the apps appear to work but aren’t actually pulling anything new, instead of just showing whatever they’ve got cached from before the servers went down.
